This summer Jimmy Consume World and Third Eye Blind combined forces for a run through amphitheaters throughout the country in a summertime tour dubbed "Gods of Summer tour." This combination was a nostalgia trip for many, including myself who hadn't seen Jimmy Eat World perform since they opened upward for Greenish 24-hour interval at Giants Stadium way back in 2005. Meanwhile, I had somehow never seen Third Eye Blind earlier, something that was long-overdue.
And opening up for both of them was Ra Ra Riot, a band who we have seen plenty of times throughout the years, although it'due south been since their 2015 operation at Infant'due south All Right since I caught them personally. With their brief opening fourth dimension slot, the ring, currently operating every bit an all-male four-piece, by and large stuck to new textile from their upcoming anthology Superbloom, out next month via Rob the Rich Recordings/Caroline.
Jimmy Eat World was upward next and Wasted no time getting the crowd into their performance, kicking things off with a lively functioning of "Pain," as well as "Bleed American." Their 14-vocal ready was perfectly enlightened of what fans wanted, staying close to the other expected fan favorites such as "Sweetness," "A Praise Chorus" and "The Middle," as well every bit some deeper cuts similar "Lucky Denver Mint." The band had the oversupply with them, singing back every discussion from the infinitesimal they launched into the very starting time song and made it articulate why they accept been able to maintain their longevity and so strongly after all these years. The band also hinted that they have finished piece of work on a new album that will be released subsequently this twelvemonth, which means that the touring won't exist stopping anytime shortly for Jimmy Swallow Earth.
The dark acted as a time capsole of sorts which ended with the performance from Tertiary Eye Blind, still going strong afterward almost three decades. We all know the hits, they haven't gone anywhere, and the crowd aptly ate up all of them when they were played and belted out every word accordingly (these songs being ""Never Let You Get," "Jumper," "How's It Going to Be" and "Semi-Charmed Life.") So oftentimes when you go to a show with a band known primarily for a set up of songs, from a certain period, unfortuantely you can tell that the crowd came for those songs only. This was non the case on this evening, as fans were equally passionate for efforts like "Motorcycle Drive By" and "Losing a Whole Yr," a track that really followed the supposed to be final song of the encore ("Semi-Charmed Life") only frontman Stephen Jenkins was so impressed with the crowds reaction that they decided to send them off with i final reason to party.
All in all, it was a great dark of music that may have been a trip down memory lane, but a perfectly welcome one at that. Not to mention that all 3 bands have their own brand new albums correct on the horizon, with enough more gas left in their respective tanks.
